Chosen by an animal Animals require time and energy, and all of it is well spent. Animals can be, and usually are, some of our most brilliant and patient teachers. If we want to learn love, devotion, trust, loyalty, responsibility, and many other characteristics we attribute to humans, we can just humbly ask an animal to be our friend.

One who has been chosen for friendship by an animal is a lucky person indeed.

Grief It’s so easy for tragedy to defeat you. It’s seductive in the way that I heard freezing to death is. Being consumed by grief is in many ways much more comfortable than battling your way out of it – especially when you realize that no matter how hard you fight you can’t reverse the situation you’re grieving over. But it’s so important to engage in the battle anyway. It’s really the only way to stay alive.

What would I discover... What would I discover about the cottonwoods if when I walked to the mailbox I listened to them instead of looked at them? What would I find out about the rain if I didn't run inside? And is it possible that a sunrise would refresh me more than sleep?

Beauty & mystery... orange cup coral The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science.

- Albert Einstein; What I Believe, 1930

Whether above or below water, what an amazing variety of beautiful, curious, and mysterious things there are to encounter. Always remind yourself to keep your senses open and aware... look for the extraordinary in the "ordinary" daily things! It doesn't take great adventures or far away exotic locations to bring beauty and amazement into our lives - it is all around us all of the time!

Another day... I have been given another day. Another day to hear and read and smell and walk and love and glory. I am alive for another day. I think of those who aren't.

...identify the best things It's important that you identify what the best things are in your life. The things that do more than just get you through a day. The things that make you want the next day to come. And once you identify those things, it's critical that you nurture them and keep them strong.

Sharing beauty... The best way to know the truth or beauty is to try to express it. And what is the purpose of existence here or yonder but to discover truth and beauty and express it, i.e., share it with others? - Brenda Ueland

Before I found the above quote, I struggled to put words to why I like sharing quotes, thoughts, and photos with everyone so much. But this is one of the reasons! I am sharing my discoveries with all of you so that I can know the truth and the beauty of them better myself. And to remind myself (and others) of the beauty that is around us every day, if only we take the time to discover and notice it!

The image below is a simple flower from a row of bushes in front of our house. The flowering bushes are not “spectacular” or “breath-taking” as some flowers may appear to be. However, just like many wildflowers, grasses, dandelions, shrubs, etc…when you stop and really look at them – they actually are spectacular and breath-taking! Their designs are beyond intricate.

Go out and “discover” something beautiful today and share it with someone!
